Big vs Small Triopetra
Triopetra is named after three big rocks in the sea. West of them, Big Triopetra stretches for kilometres towards Ligres: coarse sand, exposed to westerly winds and waves, famous for sunsets. Small Triopetra, south of the rocks, is a closed bay of sand and rock that is easier on windy days.
The bay
A few tavernas and rooms sit behind Small Triopetra, with umbrellas for rent. The small harbour of Stomio is at the south-east end, and the Akoumianos river flows in at the southern end, separating the bay from the Agios Pavlos sandhills.
The chapel of Profitis Ilias stands on the hill about 1 km to the north-east.
Getting there
Paved roads lead down to Triopetra from Akoumia or from Sachtouria. From Stomio, the walk to the Agios Pavlos sandhills beach starts about 500 m west along the road.
