What to expect
The beach is long and open to the north, so it is often wavy; choose a calm morning. A few sections near hotels have umbrellas; elsewhere it is empty.
The Tavronitis river reaches the sea about 300 m away, its gravel bed lined with reeds and tamarisks.
Nearby
The German war cemetery at Maleme is 1.6 km away. Inland, about 6.5 km south, the olive tree of Vouves is considered one of the oldest olive trees in the world and has a small museum beside it.
Getting there
Tavronitis is on the old national road and the bus route to Kissamos. The beach is reached by short roads north from the village.
