The beach

Sunbeds, umbrellas, cafés, tavernas, water sports and a lifeguard operate in summer.
Turtles and caves
Loggerhead turtles nest on this coast from May to September; some nest areas are marked off. To the east, the coast towards Geropotamos has sea caves, the best known being the 'Cave of Poseidon' with stalactites and stalagmites.
Getting there
Skaleta lies off the old national road east of Rethymno, and local buses run along it. The 16th-century church of Zoodochos Pigi at Drakonero is about 2 km away.
