The beach
The water is clear and usually calm. Sunbeds, showers and water sports are available in summer, and the beach is accessible for wheelchairs. Hotels and food are nearby.
It is quieter than the town-centre beaches but still convenient by bus or a walk along the coast.
A little history
Remains of a small Ottoman-era harbour are said to be visible in the sea, and big stones on the left side of the beach came from a demolished fort. During the German occupation the beach was mined and only cleared years later. The name is linked to locals who once washed flax here.
Nearby
Katholiko and Mirabello beaches are within 1 km, and the chapel of Agios Nikolaos at Ormos, which gave the town its name, is about 1 km away. Lake Voulismeni is about 2.5 km south.
