The beach
Glaros is one of the most developed beaches near Chania. Tamarisk trees give natural shade along the back, and umbrellas, showers, a lifeguard and water sports are all in place in summer.
The sand shelves gently, which suits children on calm days. Kalamaki beach continues to the west and Golden Beach (Chrissi Akti) is about 1.3 km east.
Getting there
Frequent city buses run along the coast road from Chania. By car, follow the road west towards Kalamaki and Galatas; parking is easier early in the day.
It is close enough to town for a late-afternoon swim after sightseeing.
When the wind blows
Glaros is open to north winds and can be rough. On those days walk or drive 700 m east to the Agii Apostoli coves, which are better protected.
