The beaches
Small Fotinari (Fotinaraki) and Big Fotinari sit side by side under thick vegetation. The shore is pebbles and fine pebbles with rocks, and the sea bed is rocky, which makes for good snorkelling and fishing. Tall rocks around Big Fotinari give shade.
Neither beach is organised, but rooms and restaurants are just above on the road.
Getting there
The coast road from Plakias towards Souda runs directly above both beaches. Park along the road and follow either of the two short stone paths through the trees. Plakias beach is 2.4 km east, Souda beach just 700 m west.
Nearby
Continue past Souda to the Pefkias coves, or go back to Plakias for a long sandy beach and tavernas. Damnoni and Ammoudi are a few kilometres east of Plakias.
