The beach
Podare is a coarse-sand beach with rocks in places. The rocky parts are good for snorkelling and fishing. A few rooms for rent stand on the beach; there are no sunbeds or bars.
Getting there
Drive to the end of the asphalt at Agia Fotini harbour, 49 km south of Rethymno via Kerames, and continue on the dirt track south-east. It is in good condition; Podare comes first, then the track climbs over a hill to Glima and Pahia Ammos.
Food and nearby
For a meal, the fish taverna at Agia Fotini is a short drive back. Preveli palm beach and Triopetra are both within about 5 km as the crow flies, but longer by road.
