The beach
The beach sits at the mouth of a deep green valley. Many tamarisks give natural shade, and a few umbrellas and showers are set out in summer.
It faces west, so the sea is often wavy; on still days the water is clear and good for snorkelling. There are no beach bars and no nightlife, which is the point.
Getting there
Sfinari is on the winding west-coast road between Kissamos and Elafonisi, so it combines well with a day in the far west. Buses run from Chania in summer, but a car gives far more flexibility.
Nearby
A short hike over Cape Korakas leads to Platanakia beach, about 1 km away. Kambos gorge is under 2 km, and Falasarna is about half an hour's drive north.
