The beach

The sand is long and the water shallow and clear, which suits families. At the eastern end the Koiliaris river reaches the sea, forming a small wetland and cooling the water in places.

Sunbeds and umbrellas are set out in summer, and there is a taverna and a canteen for coffee and snacks.

Getting there

Kyani Akti is right off the old national road between Chania and Kalyves, with plenty of parking close to the sand. From Chania it is about a 25-minute drive.

The view

Across the water you look over Souda Bay towards the Ottoman fortress of Itzedin on the opposite shore. Kalyves, with more tavernas and its own long beach, is a short drive east.
