What to expect
Ammoudi is the westernmost of several little bays cut into the conglomerate rock east of Chora Sfakion, next to the cove of Agios Charalambos and its chapel. The shore is pebbly, the water is very clear and deepens fast, and the eroded rocks give real shade.
It is a quiet spot used mostly by people staying in Sfakia. Note that the coast continues east to Filaki, an officially naturist beach beside a naturist hotel.
How to get there
From Chora Sfakion follow the coast road east towards Frangokastello and take the dirt track down to the bays; it is short and fine for a normal car driven slowly. You can also walk it from town in about 20 to 25 minutes.
Bring water and shade-free supplies with you: food, drinks and toilets are back in Chora Sfakion.
Make a day of it
Combine a morning swim here with lunch in Chora Sfakion, a look at the ruined Venetian fort above town, or the boat to Loutro. Ombros Gialos and Vrissi beaches in Chora Sfakion itself are about 1.5 km away if you want sunbeds.
