The beach
The beach is organised near the village, with umbrellas, cafés and a lifeguard, and it has a Blue Flag. Walk west and it widens and empties. Strong winds are rare, so the water is often calm.
The village
Whitewashed lanes, flowers and tavernas make Myrtos a pleasant place to stay or stop for lunch. A small archaeological and folk museum displays local finds. A monument recalls villagers executed by occupying forces in 1943.
Minoan Myrtos
Two Minoan sites are close by: Fournou Korifi, an Early Minoan settlement about 2.3 km away, and Pyrgos, a Minoan villa on a hill by the river, about 700 m away.
Nearby
The Sarakina gorge, with pools and narrow passages, is about 1.2 km away. Buses run to Ierapetra.
