Spinalonga across the water

Spinalonga lies just across the channel, its Venetian walls clearly visible. From 1903 to 1957 it was a leper colony, and Plaka was the village that supplied it. Small boats make the short crossing in season.

Beaches

Plaka's beach is pebbly with very clear water, a few umbrellas and views of the island. The sea is usually calm in the morning.

Lunch

Fish tavernas line the waterfront. A late lunch after visiting Spinalonga is the classic plan.
