The bay

Finikas is a natural little harbour with a pebble beach inside it. The water is deep, clear and usually calm, good for snorkelling off the rocky sides.

A taverna and a handful of rooms sit right on the beach, and umbrellas and canoes are available in summer. It makes a relaxed base for a few car-free days.

How to get there

The easiest way is the boat from Chora Sfakion or Loutro. On foot, the E4 coastal path from Loutro climbs over the headland in about 20 minutes, past the remains of ancient Phoenix.

With a car you can come down a rough dirt road from the mountain village of Livaniana, reached via Anopolis; drive slowly and avoid it after rain.

Nearby

Lykos beach is just west, past a large rock. Marmara beach, at the exit of the Aradena gorge, is about 800 m further along the E4, and Loutro's Ottoman fort and village are a short walk east.
