The beach
The cove sits below pine-covered slopes of the Thrypti range. Water is deep blue and usually flat, a reliable choice on a south-coast day. A few umbrellas and water sports are set up in summer, with tamarisks for natural shade.
Galini beach is just 700 m away and Agia Fotia 1.5 km, if you want to compare.
The Achlia gorge
The Achlia gorge starts near Kipos, west of Schinokapsala, and ends at the beach. It is a pine-wooded gorge with small waterfalls of 5 to 8 m in winter; the walk is easy and needs no canyoning gear outside the wet season.
Getting there
Drive east from Ierapetra on the south-coast road towards Makrigialos and follow the sign for Achlia. The road is paved, and buses run along the coast. The Milonas waterfall and gorge is under 5 km away.
