The beach

The central beach is long, with coarse sand, deep water and usually calm sea. The stream from the Ambas gorge reaches it in the middle.

Landmarks along the shore: Kolovrechtis, a light-coloured rock with oleanders, a freshwater spring and tamarisks; Bourouni, the black rock to the west where locals moor boats; Plakoura, a reef in the middle of the beach; and Volakas, a rock split in two.

Getting there

The paved road from Paranymfi is twisty but is one of the quicker ways from Heraklion to this part of the south coast. Allow time and drive carefully.

Nearby

The Ornios beaches are under 1 km away and Krygia Vlychada about 1 km; the sea cave of Katsikali is about 2.4 km along the coast. The settlement is not really organised, which keeps it quiet.
