The beach
The sand is fine and the water shallow, so it works for families. Tamarisks along the back give natural shade, and the beach has umbrellas, a lifeguard and a Blue Flag.
Remains of the ancient port of Kissamos lie near the beach, and there is a smaller pebbly cove to the west.
In town
The Archaeological Museum of Kissamos, about 800 m away, is known for its Roman mosaic floors. Remains of the Venetian fort are about 600 m from the beach.
Using Kissamos as a base
Kissamos is the gateway to Balos and Gramvousa, with boats from Kavonisi port, and Falasarna is about 17 km west. An afternoon at Mavros Molos is a relaxing counterweight to those bigger days.
Questions before you go
