The cove
Rock-bound and backed by cliffs, Trachoulas has deep, crystal-clear water and wave-sculpted rocks. Small caves along the shore give shade.
It has long been a favourite of naturists. It is completely unorganised: no umbrellas, sunbeds or shop, so bring water and food from Lentas.
Getting there
From Lentas follow the dirt road east a short way, park, and walk through the small canyon; the path is not difficult but wear proper shoes. In summer, boats from Lentas also run to the beach.
Lentas
Lentas, with tavernas, rooms and the ruins of ancient Lebena's healing sanctuary of Asklepios, makes a good base. Local legend says King Minos bathed at Trachoulas with his soldiers.
