The beach
The long shore gives you room even in August. Parts are organised with umbrellas, beach bars and lifeguards; elsewhere tamarisks give some shade. The coast faces north, so expect waves on windy days.
Sea turtles nest along here from May to September, so respect any marked nests.
The village
The name is said to come from the traditional well pumps (gerania) once used here. Gerani saw fighting in the 1867 revolt, and the writer Ioannis Kondylakis taught at the school in upper Gerani in 1885–86.
The Keritis river reaches the sea about 700 m away.
Nearby
Platanias is 1.7 km east with more nightlife, Maleme 3.6 km west, and the German war cemetery at Maleme 4.7 km away. Buses run along the coast road.
