The beach
Lagada sits in a broad, fertile valley of olive groves under the Thripti mountains. The western side is colder where the Andromilos stream enters the sea. A few tamarisks give shade.
It is open to south winds; windsurfers use it, but the rocky sea bed makes that risky. Naturists and campers like its seclusion.
Getting there
From Makrigialos head towards Sitia and follow signs for Moni Kapsa. After several greenhouses, the beach is on the right, 500 to 800 m on; dirt tracks beside the greenhouses lead down. Hotels and rooms have been built nearby in recent years.
Nearby
Diaskari is 700 m back west. The Kapsa monastery, built into the cliffs, is about 5 km east, and the Pefki and Pervolakia gorges are within 5 km.
