Morning

Arrive at Gortyn at opening time to see the Law Code and the basilica of Agios Titos, then drive 15 km west to Phaistos. If you only have energy for one, choose Phaistos for its setting.

Lunch

Eat in the villages near Phaistos or in Pitsidia, or go straight to the coast.

Afternoon

Swim at Matala below the cliff caves, walk to Red Beach, or spread out on the long sand at Kommos or Kalamaki. Stay for sunset before driving back.

Tips

The sites are hot and exposed in summer; carry water and a hat. Agia Triada, 3 km from Phaistos, is a quieter extra stop.
