What kind of beach it is
Filaki is mainly used by naturists and sits next to the Vritomartis naturist resort, often described as Crete's only hotel exclusively for nudists. If that is not for you, the coves of Ammoudi and Agios Charalambos a little to the west are quieter textile options.
The shore is pebbly, the sea deep blue and usually calm, which makes it good for snorkelling.
Getting there
Leave Chora Sfakion east on the road towards Frangokastello and follow the dirt track to the coast. There is a parking area, then a short walk past the taverna to the beach.
Sunbeds and umbrellas are available in summer, and the taverna above serves food and drinks.
Good manners
Photography of other bathers is not welcome. Respect the naturist character of the beach, keep noise down and take rubbish back with you.
