The bays
Livadi (also called Ferma or Xerokamara) is the main bay. It is not organised, but hotels, food and water are a short walk away. Pine woods and lush vegetation give shade, and families make up much of the crowd. Some spots are used by naturists.
Smaller coves include Pigadi, reached by a stepped path from the main road, and Giorgakis, 800 m away, down a steep path with iron stairs.
Getting there
Drive east from Ierapetra on the coast road; buses also run. Two stair paths of 80 to 100 m lead down from the hotels to Livadi.
Nearby
The Roman fish tanks at Vothoni are under 2 km away. Inland, the village of Agios Ioannis and the Milonas gorge with its waterfall make a good half-day walk.
