Not the resort Agia Marina
Don't confuse it with the busy resort of Agia Marina west of Chania. This is a quiet cove on the south coast, 47 km from Rethymno and 84 km from Chania.
The water is clear and usually calm, good for snorkelling, and the beach is often almost empty. Some visitors swim without clothes.
Shade and water
Large carob trees give shade, and a stream from the Argoules gorge reaches the sea year-round beside the small chapel of Agia Marina. Bring everything you need: there are no facilities. A small canteen operates at Peristeres beach, a 3 to 5 minute walk east.
Getting there
Only dirt tracks lead here. From Skaloti or Lakki beach, follow the dirt road towards Polyrizos, turn down to Peristeres and take the seaside track west to Agia Marina. Drive slowly; check your rental terms for unpaved roads.
