The museum
The Museum of the Archaeological Site of Eleutherna sets out to show the 'Homeric' Crete of the early first millennium BC through the city's finds. Galleries cover daily life, worship and burial, including rich material from the necropolis.
The site
The ancient city spreads over a long ridge and the valleys either side. The Orthi Petra cemetery, excavated by a team led by Nikolaos Stampolidis, produced remarkable Geometric and Archaic burials. Other areas include the Pyrgi and Katsivelos sectors and Hellenistic and Roman remains.
